Lake Patrol units are organizing to resume search efforts at this time with a "tighter perimeter" to keep other boaters out of the search area.

Per KBHR website, the search for the drowning victim was suspended at 1:00 p.m. this afternoon and will resume at 6:00 a.m. Sunday morning. {Transcriber note: This is presumably due to the extremely high volume of boat traffic on the lake for the holiday and fireworks display this evening.}

Per ROTW news, it appears authorities have NOT recovered the body of the missing man presumed to have drowned. {Transcriber note: Earlier traffic on the scanner indicated that it was "confirmed" they had located the body.

"They have located the body; they have divers in the water right now."

Okay, we have a target. I need you to go by and pick up a diver.

OK, it looks like we're gonna open up the north side, and close down the south.

This is slightly south of our GPS from yesterday. Looks like we're going to have to open up the north (side) and close down the south (side) now. It's about 200 yards further south from where we were yesterday.

Okay, we just dropped a blue marker buoy; this is the location they (the subjects with the victim) are adamantly sure that they were, so we need to move the perimeter further out.

"How's the (launch) ramp traffic looking right now?" "Insane."

Dive operations will commence at 7:00 a.m. MWD is asking boaters to observe a 10mph speed limit in the area they are establishing a permiter for the search.

Search efforts to locate the victim's body have resumed this morning. Resources are gathering and preparing a game plan. Updates will be posted as warranted.

{Late entry} Recovery efforts using sonar technology will resume at 6:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. Boaters on Big Bear Lake are asked to respect the Lake Patrol perimeter area that will be set up near the Observatory off the north shore of the lake.

Breaking News: Emergency Personnel, Including Lake Patrol, in Rescue Effort for Person Who Fell Off Boat July 3, 2009 by Catherine Sandstrom Filed under ALERTS/Breaking Big Bear News, Current News, Fire/Safety, Police Helicopter and police activity over Big Bear Lake at this time is due to rescue efforts to locate an individual who had fallen off a rented pontoon boat this afternoon. The Municipal Water District received the call at 3:22pm that a person had fallen off the boat, in about 27 feet of water just south of the Big Bear Shores RV Park on the North Shore. Per MWD’s General Manager Scott Heule, Lake Patrol responded immediately and, shortly thereafter, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s helicopters and rescue diving teams were assisting in the rescue on Big Bear Lake. At this time [4:20pm], the individual has not yet been retrieved. Crews on scene include personnel from the MWD, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, County Fire’s Fawnskin station #49 and the Big Bear City Fire Department. There have not been any fatalities on Big Bear Lake since April 20, 2007. Update: As of the 6 o’clock hour, Lake Patrol is maintaining a perimeter around the incident site, just east of the observatory on the north shore of Big Bear Lake. As visibility in the water is only to a depth of about 3 1/2 feet, per Heule, Sheriff’s crews will likely implement sonar capabilities to try to detect the missing (and as yet unnamed) individual. If going boating (or reading this from your boat) on Big Bear Lake, please allow room for emergency personnel–and, if you need to traverse the lake, MWD asks that you do so along the south shore.

Person missing, possibly drowning victim Published: Friday, July 3, 2009 5:59 PM PDT UPDATE, July 3 5:50 p.m.: Emergency services at the lake searching for a missing man have switched from rescue to recovery mode. The above update is about the story below: BIG BEAR LAKE, July 3, 4:30 p.m.: Authorities are searching for a missing 33-year-old male who was last seen on a boat in Big Bear Lake. Incident command for emergency services is set up at the Big Bear Municipal Water District and there are divers searching the lake because the man was reported to have fallen off the boat around 3:30 p.m. Lake patrol and the San Bernardino County Fawnskin Station 49 are securing the perimeter. They are having a hard time keeping boats out of the perimeter.

We have dropped the perimeter - repeat, we have dropped the perimeter. {This is now a recovery and not a rescue.}

We are going in to regroup; maintain the perimeter. FYI when I did the visibility level (of the lake) this morning, we were at about 9 feet. {Affirm, they're (the divers) in about 3, 3 1/2 feet visibility.}

Please notify anyone launching there that we have a perimeter set up near the observatory on the north shore and they need to hug the south shore if they are wanting to head west.

If we could break some units out to come over here and assist on the west, I'm getting bombarded pretty good here. {Affirm, we'll shift some things around.}

I'd like to bring 306 over to the Big Bear Shores to see if he can gather some information. {Copy - I think that's a good plan.}

I think we're gonna need the pontoon boat out here; go ahead and take the three flags off it and anchor it.

On scene - there's no need for Bat 131 to respond, keep him available for the rest of the valley.

Where I am now is where I originally GPS'd, so you guys have drifted quite a bit here. One diver in the water and he is at my boat.

You're going to see a yellow boat just off my stern - he needs to go far, far away.

I need you to get here Code 2 to the Big Bear Shores area, and control this perimeter - we just had someone ski right over the buoy.

Head's up - you're about 50 feet from bubbles (location of diver underwater).

You feel comfortable about it? {Yep} You got the same water depth that you had before? {Affirm - 27 feet}. Okay - I need all boats out of this area, I've got a diver going in the water, and this area cannot be breeched.

8 - Charlie Tac 1 will be the coordinated frequency for everybody working out there.

Get ahold of the Sheriff and get his take on the dive; we have one dive member on scene already and need an ETA for the rest of them.

We need the area cleared; San Bernardino County has the jurisdiction over the dive on my boat; we need the pelican located and we're going in.

I need all Lake Patrol units on scene, here, now.

Per Lake IC, the ICP (Incident Command Post) will be at the MWD.

We're going to use 8-Fire Ground 1 for this incident. Do you know how many dive team members we have coming?

The point of entry is right where that white buoy is - we're going to need a grid search all around it. Boat 49 is that pontoon boat with the red flashing lights on it.
