Mountaineer,
Just out of curiosity, how do you get your information regarding the the teachers' union "stranglehold?"
Sent: Friday, November 20, 2009 04:59 PM
And how does that reconcile with two decades of testing data showing steady improvement?
Sent: Friday, November 20, 2009 05:14 PM
Data.
10 years of increasing test scores and climbing graduation rates.
All this even though we have increased the number of required units to 230 and required Algebra and one more year of math. The population has increased, and remains the most challenging and diverse in the country.
Higher standards and more grads. Better test scores.
Damned teachers unions.

Did you know the Associated Press, America's largest news wire service, used 11 reporters to check the accuracy of Sarah Palin's book? Eleven.
Barack Obama has had two best-selling books. The Associated Press did not fact-check either one.
I know I am beating a dead industry here, but the blatant left-wing bias of the American press has reached critical mass. It is simply out of control.
Even if you don't like Sarah Palin, you know she has been treated unfairly by the media. It shouldn't be happening.

The universe fact checked those books. Who are you kidding? They went back to his high school work looking for dirt. This is one of the most naive statements ever heard if you really believe it.

Lots of money thrown at the education system, higher pay for teachers, shiny new buildings, old textbooks, shortages in materials for students, and worst of all:
Continually falling behind the rest of the world in just about every measure of education.

How 'bout the Ann Coulter final solution to get it back in control? Repeal the 1st amendment.
Even if you don't like Sarah Palin, you know she has been treated unfairly by the media.
I agree...it's not fair to give this half-wit this much media attention & imply some semblance of credibility with so many legitimate issues confronting America & the rest of the planet. She's a bad joke & an embarrassment to the the United States of America.

Ron-
You missed the point. I'm not talking about the "universe" which I think you mean the general public. No one in the MEDIA assigned even one fact checker. I don't know what you saw but I saw NOTHING criticizing Obama's, Hilary's or Gore's books.
Sent: Saturday, November 21, 2009 01:07 PM
Mountaineer, could one factor you see in the contrast of media criticism be traits Gore, Clinton & Obama share that Palin does not?
...no demonstrated allergies to the truth & an IQ above room temperature.
For this same reason, you don't see this kind of media scrutiny leveled at Mike Huckabee, Mitt Romney, Rudy Giuliani or John McCain.
I'm not buying the bill of goods of Sarah as a victim.

Obama was an honors student at Harvard and a law professor, Palin was a folksy beauty queen and then a quitter as a governor. Maybe that's why she got more scrutiny.

The people questioning facts about Palins book are not dems, they are McCain campaign staffers. The media has given her plenty of publicity. Just being on Oprah should sell a million books. I hope she makes a boat load of money and rides her moose off into the sunset.

Would Mitt Romney insist that Obama's birth certificate came from the country of Africa?

Sent: Saturday, November 21, 2009 03:52 PM
Mitt Romney's father was not born in this country. He was born in Mexico and when he ran for president this became an issue. His parents were on a mission in Mexico when he was born. The question, was he a natural born citizen of this country being born in Mexico or not? John McCain was born in Panama. Would he be considered a natural born citizen, being born in the foreign country of Panama? Barack Obama was born in Hawaii which, last time I checked, we consider to be one of the 50 states of the United States of America and not a foreign country like these others. PG

a good interview by Neil Conan on NPR about Mike Huckabee and Sarah Palin:

no body fact checked Obama's books? That's news...since the contents of the first have been heavily disputed over and over by those who want to discredit Obama, label him, reveal a hidden agenda or heritage or religion...
Here's are some examples:

Seems like dozens... including journalists factchecked the biographies.
I know that after Fox repeated and retracted the lies about his schooling in Indonesia... that that specific portion got incredible public attention from much of the media.
