How does it look from down there? I was in Lucerne Valley when it started. Within an hour or two, it looked like it was burning right down behind the mines! I decided to come to Big Bear and collect my necessities, like medications and lesson plans. The air is much clearer up here!

From where we are, we saw enormous cloud-like smoke formations up over the mountain, but our air is fine.

Thank you, Lynne. I have valued your rational voice for a long time!
I have little cabin in Sugarloaf and a little cabin in the hills above Lucerne Valley--the best of both worlds. I was evacuated from both of them during the Old Fire, so I guess I have a little post-traumatic deja vu stuff going on today. Maybe it's okay to relax?

I hear ya, delphinium. We lived in Big Bear Lake during the evacuation and nothing is quite the same after an experience like that, whenever a fire starts anywhere. I guess keep "tuned to this station" (ROTW) for current info.
Now that it's dark, we can see the big red glow over the fire area up in the mountains. We're sweating this out along with all the people up there and hope this will turn out to be a non-event.
