Whenever Wake the Bard or Tom & Byron played there, they made a profit. So, bring up some live musicians from down the hill and up here. Bring back that delicious pizza! Friday through Sunday. Every time I went in the evenings, the place was full. You don't have to pay $500 for musicians, a $100 to $200 would do. I would have thought that renting out the top apartment (or business suite) would have made it profitable.

If I won a cool twenty million or more, I'd bring it back....Anyone got any good numbers, including a good Mega number?

Well, the chance of winning the lottery is like 16 Trillion to 1.......bad odds......I saw a guy in a 7/11 over in Crestline, who paid for 37 $3 dollar scratchers ($111) using a credit card. That guy needs help! (Unless he won, of course...) Then there's the guy, now 81, living in a Florida trailer park who once won the biggest payout of 1981, lost it all....spending, divorces, betting, gone all gone....)

We really miss the Lake Inn, especially now that winter is coming. We have so many great memories of spending time there. With all the creative folks around it's too bad that we can't figure out some way to come up with a plan that would support opening up the place for dining, drinking and music at least a couple or few weekends a month. Perhaps some way to either make those weekends more financially predictable for the owners? Advance reservations and food selections with deposits or ??? I'd heard that the only time it really made a good profit was back in the "old days" when they had a more complete bar :^) Maybe things are different today and even that approach wouldn't help or would be impractical. It seems there are a lot of small bar/restaurants down the hill that seem to squeek by with a small group of patrons. I'm no expert on running this kind of business so don't shoot me if I'm tossing out crazy ideas.
I know times are tough for everyone but GVL needs a place like the Lake Inn!

Amen! But you're preaching to the choir!

I recently ordered Alfredo Chicken Pizza (out of town). I don't have any complaints about it but it did not compare to the Alfredo Chicken Pizza at the Lake Inn.
Life just isn't the same

Back in the 90s it was packed most nights. I loved feeding the jukebox and playing shuffle board.
The place was bought and turned into a restaurant. They remodeled it not to include a bar. I bought the shuffleboard from the women's club. The shuffleboard and the pool table were donated by the new owner to the womens' club.
The new owner seemed to be more interested in getting rid of alcohol than making a profit (That's just my opinion).
I still love playing the shuffleboard and I didn't even clean it up. It still has a nice tobacco smoke stained color. I now play it with my grand children. It is always a reminder of the great days of the Lake Inn back in the 90s. It looks exactly as it did in the Lake Inn, except the wall it is against doesn't have the great GVL mural.

Yeah Matt, that's what I'm saying... It would be great to have a place like that again. A simple limited menu, pool, darts, shuffleboard, music (live & jukebox), a good selection of bottle/draft beer and whatever else they could get licensed for. Probably easier said than done but I know our family and visitors would certainly frequent the place. It was nice for us part timers to have a place to go and not worry about cooking for a few meals, have a few beers and catch up on what's been doing in the town. Heck, I even used to look forward to finding an excuse to buy something each visit at Fox just to chat with John.. No potbelly stove and checkerboard but at one time it was all part of our town...

You know you can get lunch, dinner, beer, and wine at the Malt Shoppe. They even have a jukebox...

Oh we spend our fair share of time dropping into the cafe, breakfasts, etc. A walk around the lake is always a good time to stop for a hot chocolate in the winter or malt in the summer... Always friendly folks.. But for me there's just something nice and comfortable about the atmosphere, firepit, the "bar" kind of place where it's easy to spend a few hours just hanging out... walking home over the fresh snow, etc. OK, too much nostalgia for me. I'm logging off :^)
