Just before 4pm today a suv drove by and stopped below my house. Then 2 min. later a man doing some inspection across the street pulls up. As he does this the suv quickly drives up the road and turns around making another pass by my house. So I'm looking out my window and spot a white paper towel with what appears to be dry dogfood on it. I go downstairs to get a closer look and sure enough that's what it was. The man working across the street said he saw the same suv that I did parked in front of my house when he arrived. So now my question is why would he leave dogfood on a paper towel on the side of the road? I took pictures and bagged it. Since I have children and children play in this area I'm concerned. Is someone trying to poison dogs in our neighborhood? I hope not because I am a stay at home mom and will be keeping a close eye out for this vehicle. This is in the Jobs Peak area.

Very weird indeed, Cmomma-you should bring the food to a vet and have them test it!!

That's what I was wondering where to go or what to do with it. My dog is fenced in and never gets loose so I don't know what was intended. I'll call the vet right now.

I just called and they said there's nothing that they can do as far as tests, and to maybe try poison control.

I might think someone stopped and fed their dog. Not being prepared, they could have used the ppr towel to keep the food out of the dirt.
But you saw the unfamiliar SUV more than once so I hesitate to poo-pooh your concerns.
But it was the first thing that came to mind at the mention of dog food on a paper towel...probably was feeding a pampered pet and forgot to tidy up after.

The thing is that they weren't stopped long enough to take a dog out and feed it, also why in my yard? I'm in a pretty out of the way area with only 20 houses and at the end of Cedarpines Park, I will keep a close eye on my pooch.

I'm in another area of CPP but can you describe the SUV so I can keep an eye out?
We have a lot of dogs in our area and just in case it's a matter of ill-intent it doesn't hurt to be on the safe side.

It was a small brown chevy or gmc, I drove all over the hill where I'm at and couldn't find it.

Suspicious activity should trigger writting down the license number and description of the vehicle and the person driving it.
Virginie: That seems like a stretch. If a person "isn't prepared" to feed that precious pet, why would they have dogfood with them or a paper towel? Feeding an animal is not usually something that couldn't be deferred until you get home. Out here, where would home be? Close by or the guy is away from home and up to no good. We have had animal poisoners in the past.
A call to the Sheriff would be appropriate and preserving the evidence for criminal investigation would be appropriate. I would have been surprised if a local vet had the ability to detect and identify unknown contaminants in pet food.
Taking pictures of such activity is also a great deterant. If it is an innocent act, a picture gives you entre to ask the question. If the guy freaks out, he may never come back knowing he has been photographed doing the deed.

It sounds weird to me, they could be scoping the place out. Keep your eyes open, get the plate number if they come back.
When strange cars or people are around my house, I walk right up to them and say "Can I could help you?" I live on a dirt road with all of two neighbors and any body other than us country folk is trespassing and will be punished by the fullest extent of my dogs.
Regardless I don't suggest you to take matters into your own hands, it could be dangerous. You never know what is up anymore with the way things have become, times are hard for some and unfortunately robbing houses is how they make a buck.
Shameful, very shameful......

When I lived in Santa Fe, I worked with a girl who would go into areas where the coyotes had severe mange and leave out food with medicine in hopes to cure the mange... just a thought... I would be more concerned with malicious acts though.

Well my neighbors didn't get home till late last night so I went to tell them today about the dogfood ordeal and she started giggling claiming she had done it because she thought a little dog wandering around looked hungry. So I asked her why on my side of the street instead of hers and she said the dog wouldn't come near her house because of her dogs. So I am guessing the suv parked in front of my house was stopped taking a glance at what was lying on the papertowel. Or it was pure coincidence and he was doing something else. Sorry for the scare everyone. At least I'm a good neighborhood watch huh?
