This morning around 3AM my cat woke me up, hissing and growling at something in my yard. I decided to investigate and when I flipped on the outside light there was a pretty good size brown bear walking past my car and headed straight for my neighbors trash can. He pulled the lid off the can, stuck his head in and found nothing.

He hung around long enough for me to take a couple of pics of him as he strolled back out the way he came in.

Unfortunately the pictures were very dark because I wasn't sure how he would react so I turned the flash off. I figured better safe than sorry.

So heads up neighbors! I'm sure he will be back.........

We live off crest forest/ lovers lane area and had a bear 3 times last week at the garbage cans. Had to be at least 4-500 pounds. Big brown bear with a white patch on its chest. It was so close it was scary. Then the next mourning I watched the neighbors cat get taken by a coyote while I was letting the dog out. The cat got away and came home with a patch of fur missing and puncture from coyote's teeth on his rear. I've seen coyotes 2 other times on my property and racoons gallore.

I've only lived here 7 months.

Living close to garbage cans full of bear food will do that for you.

I love your response Ron!! There was a mom bear and 2 cubs hanging out around Camp Piavika last summer, and are apparently still around. We've had a young bear visit quite regularly( although I don't have trash out for them). Had made a mistake last month on pick up and he/she and I had a face off over the trash. He was on the other side of the fence and I was in the doorway. (quick escape) He growled , sat up and looked, I said go away bear,He growled then he put his head in the bag, pulled out a goodie, and took off. I then retrieved the trash. I have seen bear and signs of bear at least once a month since spring and at least 2-3 times a year over the years. Oh, I'm also in the Lovers lane area.

When we had our first cabin in Cedar Glen 6 or 7 years ago a bear regularly got in our neighbors trash cans below our place. Many times the bear was accompanied by a ooyote. What an opportunist!

We always double bagged our trash and kept it in the cabin and disposed of it in our other home down the hill.

But one morning I found a large paw print left by a bear right ourside our front door! I still have a picture of it. Glad it didn't try to get in......shudder!

Actually, it was a coyote that accompanied the bear. Many times. Ken Forsythe almost walked into them one night. That would have been scary.

Wow! I'm almost jealous! We live up on Jobs Peak and have yet to see anything except for one racoon that was a few houses away. Not even a squirrel

There was a bear at the high school recently during school hours.
Our soon-to-be junior got a picture of it from a classroom. It was right outside walking around.

Last night around 930 Mastivemama and I had a run in with our friend (whom i've enderingly named Jorge (so he can be george or jorge depending on what's in the trash can)) He got into her trash then got scared off and sat by my kitchen window till her hubby and my dogs scared it home. Mastivemama thank your hubby for saving us from jorge see you this afternoon!

I had my first bear sighting in our area last Monday, July 21. We live near the end of Mozumdar. I was on my deck about 9 a.m., shaking out some throw rugs, when I heard a loud rustling on the property just east of us. I saw what I would describe as a medium sized, black (dark brown?) bear, HAULING down the hill. He didn't even stop to have a look at me up on my deck. I don't know if I spooked him with the noise I was making, or if it was something else. He sure was moving down the hill though, toward the direction of Silverwood Lake. It was very exciting, but I was happy I was up high, not down on the hill watering or weeding.

Thanks for that report. How exciting. I wish I could see one and take pictures.

Bear is in all of our trash on Fern Canyon road. I saw him push over a big trash can, flip the lid over, take the bag and run down my deck. I stopped 5 feet from him and yelled.. Yaaaaa!! he ran like a little kid.. I think he is a little boy cub. It was dark. he turned around and came back when i tried calling my neighbor. I yalled again.. Yaaaaaa hooooo!! He said no hotmail...
