Is it just me, or is that camera way too sensitive? When coming to that intersection southbound to turn right for the freeway, the minute my tires hit the white line when the light is red, the camera flashes. In the span of two weeks now I've gotten TWO TICKETS!! Anyone else having an issue with this?

Would you prefer imprecise settings that would sometimes get you for just being close to the line? Perhaps you'd like it to skip every third offender? It is a machine and software and accuracy is usually the goal. Don't breech the line and you'll be safe.
Some folks take longer than others to modify behavior in response to new conditions.

Perks....I dont want to say.. they gotcha....just pay the Tickets

One suggestion I have is not to do a right turn on red at the intersections with cameras. I recieved a ticket from the one at Waterman and Hospitality as I was turning right on Hospitality after getting off the 10 freeway. Since then, I do not do right turns on red at intersections with cameras.

Or you could just stay home and avoid traffic, cameras, drunks and burning gas. There is no problem making legal right turns on red. I do it all the time and have never received a ticket for doing so. If you believe you are incapable of making a legal maneuver, perhaps one of those senior driving classes would help. They lower your insurance rates if you are over 55.

that little white line is called a "limit" line. if you remember your dmv handbook, you are suppose to stop BEHIND the line. if the camera goes off, you probably are over that line.

Well, I'm not 55 and unfortunately I have to work down the hill. Been going through that intersection for 21 years now and was well aware that the camera was there. The flash goes off as I come to a stop and then another flash AFTER I started from my stop, at least from the video. Guess I will either have to pay or fight both. I will bet money San Bernardino starts having more rear end collisions at that intersection. I won't be one of those statistics - I'll be taking an alternate route from now on.

You can review the offense online and see where you went wrong. Maybe you didn't stop long enough. You can also take Sierra to 30th to avoid the camera.

Every morning I go by that light, if it's not green it flashes at me. It does not matter where you stop how long you stop or otherwise, I have not received a ticket yet. I think that camera is way to sensitive! I think it's almost a form of harassment, wondering wether your going to recieve a ticket or not on a daily basis...

Perks, have you actually received the tickets?
It is my understanding that it will flash if you make a right turn on RED. Then, they review the footage to make sure you made the legal stop. I have had the flashes go off after I made a legal stop. Never received a ticket.

SO, Let me get this straight...Paul is sensitive about getting flashed,...
And Moonchild isn't?
What is this world coming to!?

Husband got a ticket, says no way, he does not do Californa stops (I do) and he turned right after stopping , the camera picture even shows him looking, tried to get on line to see the video and can't get on.says not available but to fight it would be taking off work and the whole deal,
Sent: Sunday, July 6, 2008 03:20 PM
Yes, have received BOTH!! It's good to hear that some people feel it's too sensitive as well. Just trying to gauge what I should do.

One other thing....the video seems to be a little sped up, because it does appear that I do a rolling stop, but the flash always scares me too and I do stop! I also see a slight "jumpiness" in the video after I start to proceed. I'm totally confused....maybe my stop was not long enough. Another thing...I also have a manual transmission, so the way I drive I would have to either 1) come to a stop, shift to first gear and proceed, or 2) sail through the intersection in second gear, which I would never do. I can't downshirt to first gear in my car. Oh well. Thanks everyone for your feedback.

I have seen people run that light and the camera has not taken their picture. I think the camera is very inconsistent in issuing tickets. I now go another way to avoid that light altogether.

I've been flashed once during a legal right turn against the red and did not receive a ticket. All the other times, no flash. A full stop is 3 seconds according to someone posting hear. I watch lots of california rolls there.
BTW: The serious injury accidents are way down at all the intersections equipped with the red light cameras. That's why they have announced an expansion to other high accident rate intersections ASAP.

Personally I would prefer it was less sensitive and would err a bit on the side of the offender. I wouldn't mind if it let every 3rd offender go. I wouldn't mind if it were removed completely along with all the other red light cameras.

You are suppose to stop so stop. People drive like idiots and cops can't be everywhere. I love the red light cameras. Been driving through several of them for years and not one ticket. Twice a day through three different intersections. I wish there was an idiot shut off on all cars. Twice in one trip I saw people try to cut through traffic and clip the back end of someone's car. Yesterday I saw an accident because someone ran a red light and then a few minutes later I watched as another car tries to change into a lane that was already occupied. The offender then proceeded to repeatedly make obscene gestures and scream at a driver that was doing nothing more than driving in his own lane. As long as people are going to assume that the laws are not important, are too strict, or don't apply to them, we will need these cameras.
Just on the side of fairness. My mother was hit by a car that didn't stop. I spent my childhood wondering if she was going to to die and what she would look like after her next of 100 surgeries, mostly reconstructive on her face. I don't play around in cars and I have no patience for anyone who can't follow what are essentially very simple rules of driving. If they are too much for you, then give it up. Don't make other families go through the pain of your mistake.
