We have reservations at Manresa (between Carmel and Santa Cruz) and Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park in two weeks. Man I hope it's still there!!!

You may want to make alternate plans Shannon, I'm not sure that's gonna happen. From the latest reports, Big Sur is far from fine. As of yesterday, it was at almost 40,000 acres, and only 3% contained. I also found this info.

"Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park is closed. All national forest lands north of Nacimiento-Fergusson Road are closed to public access."

This site seems to be staying pretty up-to-date with the info from the Basin & Indians Fires, you may want to bookmark for now:

http://www.kusp.org/fire/sur.html

That link goes directly to the Basin info page, not the home page. Also, here's a link to a perimeter map that, as I understand it, updated 4 times daily:

http://tinyurl.com/4tj7ep

This clearly shows where the fire line is with regards to proximity to the park. As I hear more, I'll let you know.

Let me re-phrase that, the City of Big Sur itself is still safe for now, due to the hard work and efforts of the crews working the lines. The area around Big Sur is still being very actively fought and is not close to being contained at this time.

morning fly, just spoke with a ranger at Pfeiffer and she said they are closed till the 10th and then will reassess. Our reservations aren't till the 26th for there. We are going further north first and I spoke with them as well and they said everything is ok there. I hope the area survives. It's impossible to get reservations anywhere at this point.

I thought I'd take a moment and post some GOOD news. This is from WildLandFire.com regarding the North Mountain Fire:

This one is 100% out, but I'm including it for the historical record.

Inciweb site is online:
