In addition to these "projects" they need to change the drinking age to 18!!! Teens should learn how to deal with alcohol at a much earlier age instead of sneeking and doing it in the dark. It did not hurt me or anyone I know legally drinking at 18. In fact it was a lot of fun that should be conducted in the open, that way any problems some people have with it would be apparent to all at a much earlier age where some control/help could be provided, at 21 its too late!

The Adolescent Brain and Alcohol...
"The brain goes through dynamic change during adolescence, and alcohol can seriously damage long- and short-term growth processes. Frontal lobe development and the refinement of pathways and connections continue until age 16, and a high rate of energy is used as the brain matures until age 20. Damage from alcohol at this time can be long-term and irreversible. In addition, short-term or moderate drinking impairs learning and memory far more in youth than adults. Adolescents need only drink half as much to suffer the same negative effects".

What a bunch of complete non-sense'"frontal loab brain damage" to drink when under 21. Its no wonder teens don't listen to parents, the logical extension of this theory would mean large numbers of Australians, English, Mexicans, some US states and many others have large numbers of brain damaged teens due to legal drinking at 18. A better way of reducing teen accidents would be restricted driving plates for 2 years after getting a first license. Australia has a "P" plate system that restricts what teens can do, the biggest threat to a teen is to easily take their license away. Also a different set of driving rules could be applied to them.

bad carl, I think the majority of people would say that this excercise IS part of the learning experience. What good is an education if they don't live long enough to benefit from it?

Alcohol kills! For some, very quickly in a horrendous accident. For others and their very unlucky families it takes years and years, during which time the other family members suffer from verbal and often physical abuse, fear, desperation and, finally, death of the alcoholic family member. The surviving family members are probably scarred for life and may even end up in the same vicious cycle. Sometimes I wish alcohol was illegal, but, of course, then it would just be sold the same way as other illicit drugs.

Watch this video from You Tube. It is from San Diego TV station KUSI. They are covering an Every 15 Minutes program held at a high school in Rancho Bernardo. Note how at the end of the video, the CHP officer being interviewed says it is the 40th anniversary of the death of his father, who was killed by a drunk driver. A real eye opener.
