I believe everyone should visit the traveling Vietnam Memorial, especially if they haven't experienced the original one in DC. The newer WWII Memorial and the Korean War Memorial in DC are also thought provoking and very moving. I can't imagine how it would feel to see a family name on one of those stones.

Dave, thank you for sharing your experience. My father went to Vietnam when I was six months old. Although he came home in one piece, he was emotionally shattered. In the last 20 years, I have worked with the Landing Zone (a wonderful San Diego group of vets) to 12 step him twice. Part of our healing process has been several trips to the traveling wall. It always makes me cry. I have yet to see daddy cry over it (I wish he would). Two years ago we took my three teenage boys to Oceanside so that they could experience what has been sacrificed for their freedom. I was wearing a shirt with the picturs of the boots and rifle reflected in the wall- a women walked up to me crying and said "thats my daddy". The photo had been taken with her fathers gear and dog tags. What a moving experience. Thank you for reminding us of the fact that our freedom is not free! It is bought and paid for with blood and tears!!!

A few years back the Vietnam Moving Wall came to Joshua Tree...I went to see it and was moved to tears. I was in high school during the Vietnam War, and I cannot watch the documentaries today without crying. Last weekend while driving down from NoCal, I stopped in Santa Nella to see their monument honoring those who served and died in the Korean War. I am grateful to all how have, and still do serve to keep us safe, May God Bless Them All.
