When calling the Sheriff or Fire using 911 on your cellphone, these calls get routed to the CHP first. As we all know, their call intake center can get overloaded - especially on busy holiday weekends. You may wish to have these numbers programmed in the phone so you can call the agency concerned directly.

Fire: 356-3805
Sheriff: 336-0600

While those of you served by Crest Forest Fire are dispatched by CalFire, County dispatch is still the intake for these calls as well, so the number above will work.

I heard that the Cell 911 calls are routed to Sacramento. Be sure to give the county you are calling from FIRST. The city wouldn't hurt, either.

From the Alerts page: "10:04 PM Thu 7/3 Scanners are very active with reports of fireworks investigations in almost every community on the mountain, far too many to list individually. The authorities are taking these reports very seriously and are responding to all of them."

From the Sheriff's page: 87 bazillion "disturbance" calls (parties, barking dogs, music, etc).

Apparently the mountain is full of morons who managed to sneak their fireworks in. Just for tonight, could we forego calling the sheriff for music and barking dogs (as annoying as they may be) and let our precious few law enforcement personnel concentrate on the people trying to kill us?

Unless the partiers (or dogs) are also shooting off fireworks.
