I heard one of your Sheriffs shot a dog at the Antlers Inn on Sunday night 5 times everone says the dog is a great dog , all the guys that are working on the remodle say the dog was very sweet, so their are a lot of people that want to know why he had to be shot, he was good with kids at the bus stop and all workers at the Antlers Inn would feed him their lunch. I heard he was still alive in the morning and sufferd a great deal. You would think if he was a bad dog why didnt you just kill him and not make him suffer.Even people at the market said it was un-called for. Do we have a triger happy sheriff up here, not like that has ever happen before.

That poor dog was abandoned by her person last year. She hung out at the Antler and the market for some time. She was the light brown dog - perhaps you saw her. I saw her many times and she was not agressive. I heard the 5 shots that night. And I understand that this particular deputy has been reprimanded for the very same thing in the past. Sad. Sad. Sad. Do we really need this type of person on the mountain?

I do understand that some people are upset because it was necessary for one of our officers to defend himself and have to shoot a dog. As has been my policy regarding this thread, I will not engage in a debate over this issue. I will say that I know of no officer at our station who has been disciplined for having to shoot a dog. It doesn’t happen very often, but sometimes we are forced by circumstances to shoot animals in our own defense or that of others. It isn’t pretty, but it is reality. Also, the dog was not alive after the incident.
