It is known in CPP that one of the residents shoots anything live that enters his backyard with a .22. Squirrels, birds - you name it and he shoots it. He has just about eradicated all wildlife - I have not seen one squirrel in the area in months. I personally heard him shooting yesterday. What can be done about this guy? Would the Sheriff go out and talk to him? We would like to enjoy the wildlife once again and would like him to stop killing everything in the neighborhood. Can he legally continue to do this?

Try the California Department of Fish & Game's Cal Tip Hotline to report poachers and polluters. I'm sure the local game warden would like to have a talk with him. 1-888-334-2258

Spooky, Please do contact MtnDeputy. Your neighbor is breaking several laws dealing with public safety (discharge of a firearm in a residential area; discharge of a firearm in close proximity to inhabited dwellings; discharge of a firearm within the prohibited distance of a public roadway (I'm guessing at this one, but I assume he lives near a street)), not to mention fish and game Regs, should he not have a valid hunting license. The Sheriff's Dept may have to actually witness the discharge of the firearm, but MtnDeputy can fill you in on all of the details. Best of luck.

Whpersnpr,
You might go up to the guy but I certainly wouldn't. I had a family member who acted like this guy, and believe me, he was deeply mentally disturbed.
I hope those nearby and the Sheriff follow up.

I believe the issues here was someone indiscriminately shooting all types of wildlife and a legitimate concern regarding the discharge of firearms in a residential area. I have removed posts that don't seem to add to this discussion.

Yes, MtnDeputy, those are the issues. In this case, it's best to let the Sheriff handle this. I have emailed you some information. Thank you!

A .22 bullet can fly a mile and half or more. We should be very concerned. Go get him MtnDeputy. Whprsnper was one of the first to call 911 when somebody was shooting in our hood and started a thread about it. Now he thinks its OK because they are shootin wildlife??????

This is a little different than a "barking dog" issue. I don't exactly recall this guy going around the neighborhood asking his neighbors if it was ok to shoot everything. Why would anyone expect the neighbors to approach him to resolve it, especially when a firearm is involved? Best to let the Sheriff handle it and hopefully talk some sense into the guy. In the meantime, we will all be hunkered down and keeping a low profile.
