I'm looking to replace an older Sony digital camera DSC-P72 and I'm leaning between the two following cameras. I'm looking for something small in size, very large LCD screen since I have poor eyesight and an optical view finder. I do like the fact I can get a free 2GB memory card ($24)with the Canon, the Sony does not come with a memory stick and I would have to buy one. I have a 256MB memory stick righ now but I don't even know if it's compatible with newer cameras.

Your opinions will be greatly appreciated.

I've had a cannon just like that one for about a year. It works great. I don't know that much about camera quality between the two though.

I used to swear by Sony but no longer. They are just riding on their name nowadays. I own a professional Canon and love it, wouldn't own anything else. I bought my daughter a small canon for her b-day and she loves it. Canon is hard to beat. Great lenses too.

Thanks for the info, I just ordered the Canon SD1100IS. After your input and reading many reviews, it seems Canon is best for still pictures. However, Sony seems to be the best for video cameras.

I don't know what your budget is, but the 12 megapixel Kodaks are about $200 these days and you can't beat the pixels/dollar, Canon G9 is also great if you are in the $500 range. You may want to upgrade your printer as well.

The main criteria for my purchase was to get a sub-compact camera. Amazingly, the larger the size of the camera, the cheaper the price. The cost for the Canon was $230 and included a free 2GB memory card. I just received the camera and I'm starting to get familiarized with it.
