Hi, my husband and I are going to be vacationing at Lake Gregory next weekend. I've read on several sites that there are places to rent horses and go horseback riding around either Lake Gregory or Lake Arrowhead, but nowhere have I found an actual stable name. Friends of mine who live in Crestline suggested I get on this site and ask. So, help!!! Does anyone have any suggestions for me? We really want to ride. I'm an accomplished rider and my husband is ok, not a lot past beginner, but very calm and competent. Thanks!

As an Arrowhead resident, I can tell you with absolute certainty that you cannot ride horses around our lake.

I didn't mean literally "around the lake" I just meant are there stables in the area that rent horses for trail riding.

Thanks ennui, I will see if they have horses for rent. If nothing else I will check it out as a friend of mine and I have thought about starting a therapy stables as well.

There have been stables up here but they tend to go under fairly quickly. Most commercial operations are boarding facilities.

You might have better luck asking under horse rental in the all community thread. Lake Gregory is a Lake, not a place.

A google search of this site got no hits.

A regular Google search found Big Bear and down the hill facilities. The reference to horseback riding for Lake Arrowhead is circular and finds nothing but places to sleep.

The Backyard Equestrian Center referenced above is definitely the place for you to go next weekend. They have about 50 horses and lots of places to ride. They are very friendly people.

Be comprised that Lake Arrowhead is a private lake and unless you own a house in the Arrowhead Woods area the lake is off-limits for you to use. You cannot go boating, swimming, fishing, or even just lolling on the beach. You are allowed to shop in their factory-outlet type shops and you can take an interesting one-hour tour on the Arrowhead Queen.

I would recommend staying in Crestline, also enjoying Lake Gregory. You can swim, fish, loll on the beach, rent kayaks, sabots, canoes or paddle boats. There is a nice walking trail around the lake which is also handicap usable. And -- you can go ride horses to your heart's content.
