After living up here for 4 years, I finally saw my first bear up in these parts. About 3am I was driving down Live Oak, just before Ferndale, and there was the bear crossing Live Oak heading toward the canyon. BOLO for the bears!!!

Hi, Ron! I'll keep you posted on the next jam. I have a huge dent on my car's hood from a bear that stood up, and put his front paw on my hood, so he could see over my deck fence into our living room...I've seen maybe six bears so far, one of them I drove up to, rolled down my window and said "hi, bear", he just glanced at me, mosied on over to the side of the road. It was about a 600 pound male. Don't think I would try that with a female bear, might be cubs nearby! Of course I was moving, had my foot still near the accelerator and ready to take off if he had other ideas....Wouldn't want to encounter one while walking.....

I think there is a family of bears that live in the canyon area below Live Oak. I have never seen a bear, footprints only, and claw holes on the lids of my trash cans, and I live on Live Oak. But, I have friends that live in the outer area of Enchanted Forest that have seen all 3 bears...Mama, baby, & big Papa bear.

There is a bear that is visiting enchanted forest (bottom of live oak) almost nightly - a female with a cub. We have only been up here a few years and I must be a little dense because it took me a while to realize it was a bear getting in the trash. I think I was in disbelief and kept thinking a coyote or raccoon was knocking it over, until my rubber can was squished in half!
Trash is in the garage now, as is just about all of my neighbors since we don't want harm to come to her or her cub because we were not taking the right procautions. She has also gone after some bird feeders and torn apart a compost pile!!
