I hope we don't depend upon the emergency siren system to be a valuable contact tool in the event of a "real" emergency. We listened @ noon and heard nothing at all. We are located right next to Snow Summit...shoulda' heard it fine.

I could have sworn I typed a response to this, I wonder what thread it ended up in!! Nope did not hear it. I was in the backyard at that time here in BBC. Maybe the jacuzzi jets were louder than the sirens!

I didn't hear it either. Even though the tests are scheduled for the first Saturday of every month, I'm betting they didn't do it because it was a holiday and none of the tourists would have known it was a test, and panicked, and their phones would have been ringing off the hook.

When they tested it last month, it was pretty loud here in BBC. The captain out here also told me that when it is only a test it is not at full volume, that it will be louder in the event of a real emergency.

You're probably right Maggie. I normally hear it, and I would have heard it over the jacuzzi jets if it had gone off. I'm usually in the house when I hear it, and this house is pretty well insulated, so they are loud enough.

The test was done as scheduled, Sat. 7/5 @ noon, per an article right here on ROW. But I'll bet you are right that they do it @ a whisper level so as not to "alarm" anyone.
So...if there ever is an actual emergency, how are we going to know what the alarm sounds like?! ...sheesh!

I used to like it years ago when they would set them off ever day at high noon here in the valley. You could here that system. That was back when they alerted our volunteer fire fighters. At least they spent the 911 allocation on a community alert system instead of a gym’s and other crap the way other departments did around our country.
