TPster- go to turnersoutdoorsman.com- they happen to have a nice assortment of home defense tools currently on sale. Any of those badboys would do the job when needed. Find one, buy one, and then get familiar with it so that there is no guessing should a situation show his/her ugly head. They should be opening up 1NO9 soon- Practice, Practice, Practice!

The beauty of gun ownership is that you don't have to own one to reap the benefits of OTHERS owning them... when you live in a community in which at least SOME are armed, the dirtbags will think twice about climbing through ANY window...

I grew up in a high crime neighborhood where a lot of people Lots of people owned guns. You could even rent them by the hour. The benefits? Bullet hole through my bedroom wall... one through my bathroom window. No one thinking, least of all criminals, gang bangers, drug addicts, think twice about climbing through a window... or shooting blindly, shooting wildly, shooting from a moving vehicle into an occupied house. They didn't seem to care that anyone kept guns around... and if they knew there were guns in the house they would break in the moment you left.

Practice good gun safety. Make sure that everyone in the house is trained and understands how to safely and effectively handle every gun in the house. Be very conscious of other people's children when they are in your house... and practice.

Good sound advice sabro. I guess it is safe to say if you own a gun practice good gun safety & keep it locked away from kids.

I received this pic in an email the other day, kind of humorous in a sarcastic way.

We are responsible for our own defense.Police cannot be everywhere.

The primary job of patrol officers is to deal with the aftermath of a crime and do the paperwork. Only about 2% of criminals are caught 'red handed'. Good investigative work, and some luck, is how most of the bad guys get arrested, but that is long after the victims have suffered the effects of the crime.

On the other hand, it is estimated that armed civilians stop two million plus crimes per year.

And, even that number is often thought to be low. There are usually stats available for when somebody shoots an intruder, but it's not always reported when an armed citizen stops a crime just by displaying the weapon, or threatening to use the weapon, or even falsely claiming that they will use one ("Stop, or I'll shoot!").
The fact that we are armed stops crime. And, statistics have proven it beyond any doubt: In communities where laws are changed that outlaw decent citizens from owning them, violent crime always goes up. In communities where guns were once outlawed or restricted, and laws are changed to allow (or even in some cases, are mandated) homeowners to bear home defense firearms, violent crime always goes down, generally quite dramatically.
On the other hand, some folks are more concerned with making sure that criminals have a fair chance, as opposed to the rights of women who will be raped, homeowners who will be robbed, or citizens who will be killed. I guess we all have our priorities somewhere!
