I am thinking of getting another internet service. Verizon has a package deal with FIOS. I already have verizon home and cellular, but like my DISH network for TV.
Also, what will work in Twin Peaks by Augusta?

There is no FIOS on the mtn. If there was, Charter would be in serious trouble. Internet choices are Verizon and Charter. Both have their plusses and minuses.

No matter which one you pick though, never just accept the default speed. totally junk. Always ask to upgrade to the highest internet speed available up here or you will be subject to slow downloading and horrible upload speeds.
My cellphone does "phone as modem" where I can plug it into my computer and get internet from Sprint. It's 2 times as fast as Verizon's junk 768K which translates to 350K with the crappy wiring and weather up here. Problem is though it's hella expensive.
Anyway, alot of people aren't aware that for a measly $20.00 a month (less than a dollar a day) all of the internet speed problems could be solved by bumping up the speed. I guess for some, internet isn't as high on the priority list, but for me, it's more important than gas in the car....
Oh yeah, old or cheap wiring in the house (phone or cable) can really screw up your internet. Something to keep in mind.
In any case, baby's crying now. Gotta go! Good luck!

mtldy, like you I won't give up our directv. We have the package from charter, internet, phone & cable for 69.99 a month plus the internet upgrade for an additional 5.00. I put the cable in the spare bedrooms that don't have sat boxes for when company visits. We were paying 75 a month for verizon phone only. So this is a much better price for all three services. Also our 12 month discount pricing was just up with charter, I called customer service to say that I would be checking for a promotional package with verizon so they extended our pricing another twelve months.

Has anyone tried the AT&T wifi plug-in on a laptop up here?
Sent: Tuesday, November 3, 2009 11:44 AM
AT&T generally is the worst. If you want a 3 or 4 gig service, I would go with sprint or verizon, in that order.

I'm fairly happy with Charter up here. I had Cox and TimeWarner down in San Diego, and they had fewer problems than Charter. No FIOS up here, and maybe NEVER...

Anyone have the package deal from Verizon?
Sent: Wednesday, November 4, 2009 09:17 PM
Just went to the Verizon.com website, entered my home phone # and got, "Based on the information you entered,Verizon High Speed Internet is not currently available." So, not only is FIOS not available, but HSI isn't either. Does that mean my only choice is Charter?
I will call them tomorrow and confirm.
