I just got a call about an akita that is starving to death. His owner took off, and never came back. I'm told hes skin and bones, very weak and losing his hair. He is about 8 or 9 years old, has never been aggressive towards people or other animals. I can't take him, my male dog has issues with other male dogs. AAPL is being called, if they can't help....this dog needs a temporary/permanent home asap! He's in Cedar Glen.

I hope those #%$@&%@ owners are found & held accountable. Poor thing. Is anyone trying to feed him now? I can bring him food right now if needed. But sadly I can't take him in, especially if he's so weak. I'd be worried about the distemper.
Have you tried contacting any Akita rescues?

The owner owns the house- he just decided to take off a month or so ago and leave the dog. The dog has been fed tonight and given water. He doesn't have a fenced yard, the dog has been trained to stay on the property...which is what he has done since his owner left, he has started wandering off for food and water, but for the better part sits there on the front yard. I'm not concerned about distemper- I think hes just ready to drop from the lack of food.
I have the name of the owner. He's a local contractor.

I'm worried that he would get distemper if he came here, as that's what the foster pup we had died from.
I'd contact the sheriff & file a complaint
ASAP, about the owner. It's a felony & he needs to be made responsible. But the dog will not be returned if I have anything to say about it.

I'd post his name on here as well, don't think alot of people would want someome like
that working for them.
But maybe ask Dave if you could do that.

I would not want him to go to the shelter- but you can call and report and abandonment and AC will respond within 24 hours. They leave a notice and come back 24 hours later. They give the owner 48 hours to call in with the notice in hand and let them know otherwise or they seize the pet. At least then maybe the owner would be charged. The #800-472-5609. Just in case...

krspgs, would you mind if I gave your email addy to a fellow ROTW poster who lives in Cedar Glen? She'd like to know who this
person is.
I started a thread in Cedar Glen as well, hoping someone could help & Carol responded.

DD-could I have the email to Krsprgs also. I think I know who the contractor is and I groomed this dog when he was a puppy. If I am correct I am shocked because this dog goes everywhere with him. This dog is also very sweet. I hope someone can help him.

Got your email krsprgs! Thank you.

PLEASE call if there's anything I can do to help with the dog.
Perhaps we could put a plea out on Craigslist to help get transporters to get him up north? I wonder if the Akita resue here could help with that?
Let me know!!

I'm waiting to hear back from the n.calif rescue to see if they have somebody to foster. I also contacted the one in Santa Ana, I haven't heard from them-
I'll call the neighbor in a bit to see how the dog is today

Is the dog still outside in this weather, Has a place been found?
Sent: Thursday, May 22, 2008 08:41 PM
Conga, the owner actually was there when a good hearted person went to check on him. He got all pissy & the started a verbal fight with a neighbor that came out to see what the fuss was about. The concerned person took advantage of this distraction and left.
Animal Control will be called to see if they can help.

Thank you for answering, I've been imagining the poor baby out there alone in this weather.
Whether my DH liked it or not I was going to dognap it if I had to at least until a forever home could be found. Have found 2 starving dogs before. One made it (Rocky), one didn't. I couldn't stand to think of another like that.
