lae--I do understand what your saying--its happened to most of us at one time or another. Sometimes we really don't want the obligation of being an ant mommy--it just happens so I do have sympathy for you and others that have gone thru a similar experience. And it is very difficult to turn away a mommy ant with 1200 newborns. You just look at their little faces as they crawl thru every sweet you have in the house, all over your countertops and even in your cupboards, sometimes even the baby's crib and you just cringe knowing whats in store for you. But what can you do? Once they show up they're yours. They have to be cared for and fed--at least until you can re-home them or find foster care. Foster care is especially difficult right now since we are in such economically stressed times. If your going to keep them then they have to be spayed/nuetered. Its part of being a responsible parent to these little guys. However I have discovered that you don't always have to take them to the vets which can be outrageously expensive. Thru experimentation I have discovered that Raid works about the same. A side benefit is it knocks all of that excessive energy out of them so they are easier to deal with on a day to day basis. So there is help for all the ant mommy's out there. It still comes down to if people would spay/nueter their ants the rest of us wouldn't end up having so many ourselves and the cycle wouldn't have to be repeated on a yearly basis. And lae, I do wish you luck in finding these little ones a new home. Have you posted pictures? Thought about an adoption fair? It requires a lot of time and energy but will be well worth if you can find a new home for these little guys. I would suggest talking to DD--she's got millions of them right now and could probably steer you in the right direction. Good luck!

Ahem ok, so back on topic. Our ants seem to only come to one part of the kitchen & since I don't cook, I've absolutely NO IDEA what they could want on this one counter. & trust me, this counter is
spotless. But we do eat a fairly decent diet (if you call PB&J decent.

), but they're nowhere near any food, go figure. Thankfully these guys are sooper low care & obviously will do exceedingly well in any type of household. The colonies I have are ok here right now, but DH is getting pretty impatient with them. I think an Ant Fair would be ideal!! Perhaps we could even have a Flea Circus to attract the crowds?

A flea circus money raiser--what a great idea. You can count on my brother's neighbor to supply the fleas although I don't know if they're trained or not. Just a suggestion. What about flys for a flying, tight-roping walk sort of thingy? I don't know if I would be able to help work the fair because of my work schedule but if someone could supply transport for them I could donate as many horse flies as you would need. Food included of course. Lets work together people and get this thing going. Lets get these ants loving homes where they'll be welcomed year after year after year after year after----
ON a different note---sorta---DD glad your not having to many problems with your ants at this point. They do need to be fed though or they'll wander off looking for food. We don't want those little guys winding up in the lost ants section.
