I am the owner of 2 sulcata tortoises,(these guys get HUGE) thats not a joke, yes in some cases they are easy to tend to but have ya ever tried to get a 70 pound tortoise to do what you want?
Both of the tortoises are rescued tortoises and since coming into my care and really doing well so please yes tortoises can be good pets but please do your homework on the kind you are thinking of. Some breeds need more care then others. Most desert tortoises do sleep all winter by my guys are not hibernators so as the cold weather sets in they need special hot boxes to help them stay warm. I have a large aquarium that I used for my african spurred but unfortunately for me he did not adjust well to living on the mountain and is currently living with the ex down in Palm Springs. Good for him he is loving it!!!!.....however I do have this large aquarium just sitting here so if you or anyone you know can use it please email me dwelty909@yahoo

Bink, if you don't want to clean a bird cage, DON'T get a slider....much more to maintain than a bird.
