I won't be able to go to Market Night this week. I have a meeting with my mother and her doctor in Alhambra. I may spend the night there. Maybe next week if they both haven't found wonderful homes by then.

Echo is trying out her new home with HeartInTheMountains' family! I hope and pray that it works out for all. She will be a truly lucky dog and real member of the family. She has already proved that she knows how to mingle and get along with crowds of humans and other dogs. She doesn't even react when yappy little dogs try to attack her. She seemed to take to Heart's family immediately and didn't care if I were there or not there. When they were leaving, I asked her if she would shake hands good-bye, and she gave me her paw. Maybe Heart will post here if she has time. If Echo's placement turns out to not be a good match, at least I will know more about her for the future. I am cautiously optimistic, however.

Please keep us posted, media! I must've been hard to say goodbye to her!

It was hard. The only thing that made it possible was knowing that I simply did not have room to add another dog to my pack.

Echo is a true joy in our home!! She is so sweet and well behaved! She is exactly what we needed in an addition to our family. The entire family is in love with her! We took her to PetCo today and bought her toys, treats, and an ID tag. She is beautiful and gets complements where ever we go.
She loves my 9 and 10 year old daughters. She follows them around the house and sits at their feet. Today she "helped" clean their room by sitting smack dab in the middle of it and supervising! She is so patient with my 3 year old too. She lets him hug her, which he thinks is great.
Since we have never had a dog before we brought Echo home for a "trial period" to make sure we would be the kind of family that she needs. We are only one day into it but I can't see us giving her up. She is a part of our family already.
She definitely needs some leash training. She gets so excited on our walks that my husband has to hold her leash. We have already begun looking into training classes. She will also meet our new vet this week just for a check up. I need to know that she is healthy. She seems to have a little trouble with her hips but I am hoping that she is just being reserved in her new surroundings and that there is nothing wrong.
This weekend we are taking her on a family camping trip to Big Bear. I think she will like it since she loves to be outdoors. We want her to be an active part of our family and go on adventures with us. We are so greatful to Mediateach for saving her life and sharing it with us!

I'm so happy to hear how much you love Echo! It sounds like things are going well!

What kind of issues are you seeing with her hips? My husband and I kind of laugh at our BC mix, she waddles when she walks, and I've noticed that Aussies do it as well. I'm just wondering if that is what you are noticing. I hope she's healthy as can be, please keep us posted!

Bunny, It is strange the hip thing seems to come and go. Sometimes she seems to struggle when she gets up from a sitting/laying position. She also seems to have problems walking up the stairs but other times it doesn't. This morning she needed my husband's help to get up into the car. (It is a cross-over, not too high.) But then by this afternoon she was running in the backyard playing catch and tug-of-war with my kids. I absolutely hope that it is nothing! She is such a sweetheart and I would hate if she was in pain.

Happy to hear Echo sounds like a perfect match for your family ... hope she gets a clean bill of health soon and spayed!
Sent: Monday, July 28, 2008 10:03 PM
She will ABSOLUTELY be spayed!! The vet that treated her for the kennel cough suggested that we needed to wait a while, maybe even two months, to spay her. She will be spayed just as soon that time frame is over. I will get a second opinion on the time frame when I take her to my local vet this week. Do not worry about her not getting spayed!!
Sent: Monday, July 28, 2008 10:24 PM
Heart, I sent you an email. If your vet says the same thing mine did, I think we should convince General the spay should be done ASAP. You don't want her coming in heat. TROUBLE. I am thrilled you love her so much. She deserves it.

YEAH!! Echo received a clean bill of health from the vet today. She said we should just keep an eye on her hips for now. The best way to diagnose would be with an e-ray while sedated when she is spayed. We will follow up at that point. Otherwise, vet says she looks great. I talked to a friend today that had a similar breed dog. She said her girl also had issues jumping into cars, etc. but never had any major issues. I hope that is the case with Echo. Vet also said to wait at least a month after recovery from kennel cough before spaying. That means we will schedule surgery for middle of next month.
Otherwise, I think she is settling in and becoming comfortable in our home. She is eating well, playing toys, running around, and we even finally heard her bark. Tonight she played in the fountain in my mother's backyard. She thought that was great fun! She is very curious and wants to stop and check out EVERYTHING! She makes us all smile.

Yay Echo!

My dog hates jumping in the car too. Even in our car, that is lower to the ground.. It's weird, she doesn't have ANY problem jumping on the couch or the bed!
