Snow Fall Provides Great Skiing and Relief to Local Businesses After a week of back to back winter storms, the mountain communities are digging out and stocking up for yet another two storms expected this week Highway 38 Reopens (Update 1:20 PM) Highway 38 was closed for approximately two hours to allow California Highway Patrol to escort a wide load to the Big Bear area. The highway reopened at 1:20 p.m. Victims Of Heavy Snow in Big Bear Mobile homes in Big Bear are having problems with roofs being able to withstand the weight of the most recent snow storms. Mountain Highway Information (Update 6:30 PM) Road closure and chain requirement information provided by Caltrans. Trucks and buses are restricted on state routes in the San Bernardino Mountains until further notice. Arctic Circle Reopens California Highway Patrol and Caltrans closed highways in the San Bernardino Mountains due to weather conditions and multiple vehicle hazards. Winter Pile Burning Underway Fire crews have started winter pile burning at various locations across the San Bernardino National Forest. The favorable change in weather now provides opportunities to resume annual winter pile burning activities on hazardous fuels reduction projects within the forest. Rollover Accident Closed Highway 330 For Hours On Friday, December 4, at approximately 5:17 p.m., a yellow stake bed truck traveling southbound on Highway 330 was involved in a solo vehicle overturn traffic collision. The truck became engulfed in flames and ignited the nearby vegetation. Rim Weather Hiker Rescued by Helicopter Near Cliffhanger Restaurant (Update 3) A San Bernardino Sheriff's Department helicopter rescued a slightly injured hiker Monday morning in a remote location below the old Cliffhanger Restaurant. He was identified as 51-year-old Allen Smith from Riverside. Cause of Lower Fire Under Investigation (Update 2) A suspicious fire blackened five acres just off Highway 18 at Lower Waterman Canyon Road before firefighters could knock down the wind-swept blaze. Weather: High Wind Warning and Fire Weather Watch (Update) The National Weather Service in San Diego has issued a Fire Weather Watch in addition to the High Wind Warning. Deer Lodge Cabin Destroyed (Update) A two-story cabin along a dirt road in Deer Lodge Park has been destroyed by fire. The fire was contained by 40 firefighters from various agencies. Sheep Fire Now 75 Percent Contained (Update) Residents of Wrightwood have returned home as fire officials have announced the Sheep Fire is now 75% contained. Down The Hill Party Poses Local Risk Adoption of Social Host ordinance would assist law enforcement efforts to address health and safety concerns raised by recent raves in Redlands. Chains Required On All Vehicles - R2 Conditions (Update 3) All roads in the mountains are under R-2 chain requirements. Fire Reported In Lake Arrowhead Determined To Be False Alarm Engines from Lake Arrowhead checked the area of Peninsula Drive and Zurich Drive and were unable to locate a structure fire. San Antonio Heights Fire 100% Contained (Update) The San Antonio Heights Fire is 100% contained. The latest reports show the fire consumed about 115 acres, down from the original estimate of 200 plus acres. Minor Fire Extinguished Above Johnny’s Market (Update) Firefighters from Crest Forest Fire District responded to a call of a fire on the patio of the residence above Johnny's Market on Waters Drive in the Valley of Enchantment. It was extinguished when units arived. Fire Destroys Two Homes (Update 3) Fire crews battled a fire in the 700-block of Holmes Court. Two homes were damaged by the fast spreading flames. One home was completely destroyed, while a second sustained less damage. There were no injuries and both home were unoccupied. Thank You! Vegetation Fire Near Crestline Under Investigation (Update 2) Emergency personnel responded to a fire near Crestline off Pine Ridge Road and Mile High Road. The fire was contained at a quarter acre and the cause is under investigation. Fire Near Monument Peak Contained (Update 2) Firefighters responded to a fire near Monument Peak at approximately 4:30 p.m. Monday. The fire was contained at 5:32 p.m. to just under 3/4 acre. Bloodmobile Rolled Into Running Springs Friday The Blood Bank of San Bernardino and Riverside Counties invited all healthy donors to give the "Gift of Life" Friday, from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at First Mountain Bank in Running Springs. Red Rock Wall Accident Victim Identified (Update 10) The San Bernardino County Coroner has confirmed that the Red Rock Wall accident victim is Molly Kate Lamers-Wolfgang, 34. Her body was recovered on Thursday. Driver of Overturned Jeep Arrested (Update 3) California Highway Patrol and units from Crest Forest Fire District responded to an overturned vehicle on Highway 18 near the Crestline Bridge. The driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. Debris Flows Possible In Burn Areas San Bernardino County is reminding residents about the dangers of possible debris flows in and below the areas recently burned by the Slide and Grass Valley wildfires in October 2007. Ridge Fire - A Photographic Journey (Photo Update) The Ridge Fire was first reported at 1:34 p.m. on Thursday, July 3, 2008. As of 6 p.m. on July 6, the fire was fully contained after burning 263 acres. Ridge Fire 100 Percent Contained (Update 4) Firefighters battling the Ridge Fire near Yucaipa have declared the fire 100% contained. Ridge Fire 15 Percent Contained (Update 8) The fire in the Yucaipa Ridge area of Yucaipa has now grown to over 250 acres and is reported to be 15 percent contained. Full containment is expected Friday at 8 p.m. Victim of Fatal Collision on Keller Peak Road Named (Update 3) Keller Peak Road off Highway 18 was closed most of Saturday for an investigation into an early morning fatal accident. Twenty-year-old David Lasky from Sugarloaf was killed in the incident. Cause of Structure Fire in Running Springs Under Investigation (Update 3) Firefighters quickly knocked down a structure fire in Running Springs Saturday morning in the 31400 block of Oceanview Drive. An outbuilding and a fence on Frontier Drive were also damaged. Sunday Jammers Present House Concert Two local musicians are scheduled to be the featured artists in the next performance of the Sunday Jammers' House Concert Series. Deck Fire Threatens Structure in Big Bear City (Update) A deck fire reported in the 500 block of Big Bear Boulevard has been contained. Highway 189 Reopened After Injury Accident (Update) Emergency personnel were dispatched to Highway 189 at Lake Gregory Drive for a traffic collision with injuries. Upon arrival, paramedics from Crest Forest Fire District found a vehicle 30 feet over the side and two minor injuries. The roadway reopened at 5:30 p.m. Victim of Highway 18 Accident Near Rim High School Identified (Update 4) Search and Rescue personnel have retrieved the body of an accident victim that occurred on Highway 18 across from Rim High School. The name of the victim has not been released. Second Vehicle Off Roadway Crash Claims Lake Arrowhead Resident (Update 2) Just after 7 a.m. this morning, emergency personnel were dispatched to an area off Old Waterman Canyon Road east of Highway 18 for a vehicle approximately 100 feet over the side. Storms Rip Across Area (Update 1) A late-season storm system is currently bringing showers and thunderstorms to the region. Severe thunderstorms ripped through the area during the middle and late afternoon causing frequent lightning, hail, and reports of tornadoes in Riverside County. Firefighters Could Not Locate Fire In Running Springs (Update 3) Three to four lightning strikes had reportedly ignited a fire in the vicinity of Encina Way and Hunsacker Drive in Running Springs. Vegetation Fire Near SR 330 Extinguished (Update 3) Fire crews made quick work of a vegetation fire Sunday afternoon off Highway 330 near FS 1N09. An illegal shooter in the area was issued a citation. |
