Overnight Thunderstorms May Rattle Mountains (Update 3)By Scott Straley Running Springs, CA — Severe thunderstorms developing over the desert are beginning to drift south toward the mountains as additional thunderstorms are developing along the desert rim north of Big Bear.
Additional thunderstorm development anywhere along the entire San Bernardino Mountain Rim is likely overnight.
Weather conditions are right for the development of nocturnal thunderstorms in the mountains, according to the National Weather Service.
"These thunderstorms will be capable of producing heavy rain, gusty winds in excess of 45 MPH, cloud to ground lightning, and small hail," writes the a National Weather Service forecaster. "Heavy rainfall can cause normally dry washes to suddenly fill with runoff. Additional thunderstorm development is possible later tonight as old and new outflow boundaries continue to interact."
