Possible Arson Fires Near Lake Silverwood Contained (Update)

Firefighters are being released from the Pilot Rock fire, as crews continue to mop-up hot spots. Prevention officers have been called to start an investigation into the origin of these three suspicious fires in close proximity.

Original Story - Sunday 9:25 p.m.

Pilot Rock Conservation Camp, CA — Firefighters quickly responded to the report of at least two fires along Highway 138 between Silverwood Lake and Valley of Enchantment. One of the fires was extinguished by firefighters almost immediately. Another fire, located in the switchbacks above Pilot Rock, burned about one quarter to one half acres before firefighters contain it around 9:30 p.m.

A witness reported seeing a vehicle driving on Highway 138 with someone throwing lit objects, possibly flares, out the car window. Firefighters are patrolling along Highway 138 to locate additional fires. The fires were first reported shortly after 9 p.m. on Sunday. Investigators have reportedly recovered evidence at the scene. No description of the vehicle was available.
