Twin Peaks, CA – Free Jeffrey Pine Trees were given away, as long as they lasted yesterday (October 11), during the Second Annual Pine Cone Festival.

The free family event took place at the Mountain Community Senior Center and Rotary Centennial Park on Grandview Avenue in Twin Peaks sponsored by the Pine Cone Festival Committee and the Mountain Rim Fire Safe Council.

Developed by a group of mountain citizens, the Pine Cone Festival and its activities are meant to enhance the options for locals and visitors to enjoy the San Bernardino mountain communities.

Now in its second year, the Pine Cone Festival is supported by numerous local organizations and businesses and features entertainment by the Mountain Fifes and Drum Corps, the Johnson Family Quartet and bagpipes.

In addition, there are $1,200 in grand prizes available in the "World's Biggest Pine Cone" contest.

This year, Charter Communication sponsored the climbing wall from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Individuals had two admission options—both benefiting local charities—to climb the wall. A canned food item for Operation Provider can be used as admission or a $3 donation to the Food Bank also allows people to climb the wall during the Pine Cone Festival.
