Greenthumbs Release Volunteer Project Schedule

Big Bear Ranger Station Native Plant Nursery

By Michael P. Neufeld
Sunday, October 12, 2008

Big Bear, CA – Volunteers are needed to help restore areas disturbed by recent fires, and you can land a hand by signing up at the Big Bear Ranger Station under the Big Bear Greenthumbs program.

The Greenthumbs have just released their 2008-2009 volunteer project schedule. The Greenthumbs are a group of volunteers that assist the San Bernardino National Forest by restoring disturbed lands through activities at the Big Bear Ranger Station's Native Plant Nursery and Restoration Program.

Volunteer projects include seed collection, germination, plant propagation, weed removal, site preparation (sometimes trash removal), and direct seeding and out-planting on the forest.

Activities are open to all interested members of the public. Over the past 15 years this group has restored hundreds of acres on the San Bernardino National Forest with native plants grown from our commercial sized greenhouse.
