Do Not Vote. . .Unless!
By Michael P. Neufeld
Tuesday, June 3, 2008
I challenge each and every registered voter in the mountain communities NOT TO VOTE on Tuesday unless they want to have a very powerful say in the future of the San Bernardino Mountains.
While the June 3 Primary doesn't have an exciting ticket at the top of the ballot there are plenty of other important reasons to go to the polling place. Local residents, depending on what part of the mountain they live in can help select a member of Congress, a State Senator, two State Assembly members, Superior Court judges, members of Republican Central Committees and in Big Bear the fate of Measure Q (Bear Valley Community Hospital District). In addition there are two statewide propositions having to do with eminent domain.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Check the back of your sample ballot to determine your polling place in Tuesday's election. Or visit http://gis1.sbcounty.gov/sbcwebs/vrlookup/search.asp to determine your designated polling place.
Complete election information is also available at http://www.co.san-bernardino.ca.us/rov/current_elections/060308/default.asp or by calling the California Secretary of State's voter assistance hotline at (800) 345-8683.
A reminder that absentee ballots must be returned by 8 p.m. Tuesday to any polling place in the county and the same applies to mail-in ballots.
A lot of students from local high schools will be working as poll workers June 3 under a special program authorized by the state legislature. Some of these students aren't old enough to vote Tuesday but they're getting involved in the democratic process.
Hopefully, their involvement will be a beacon for others who haven't decided whether to vote June 3. Each and every one of us makes a difference when we drop that completed ballot in the ballot box.
VOTE TUESDAY like the future of our mountain communities depends on it because that just could be the case!
