Big Bear Marathon Won by Cedar Glen Man (Update)

Idyllwild Woman Claims Marathon Prize

Big Bear Lake, CA - Cedar Glen resident Tony Torres, 39, won the first-ever Big Bear Marathon Saturday with a time of 2:41:44. The fastest female was 49-year-old Judy Maguire from Idyllwild who crossed the finish line with a time of 3:16:33.

Torres, who has trained in Big Bear for several years, has also won the Lake Tahoe Marathon three times.

David Dolezai, 39, from Big Bear Lake recorded the next fastest time for a local marathon runner crossing the finish line in Big Bear Village with a time of 3:15:376 to finish sixth.

The Half Marathon was won with a time of 1:13:53 by 37-year-old Romualdo Sanchez from Los Angeles. The female title went to Peggy Kern, 27, from Riverside who was clocked by Results By Prime Time at 1:25:32.

The 5K Run went to Palm Desert runner Luis Pimentel, 19, with a time of 19:01. Big Bear Lake's Vivien Wadeck, 29, crossed the Big Bear Village finish line with a time of 20:12.

Big Bear Lake, CA – The first-ever Big Bear Marathon was staged Saturday with up to 5,000 participants expected to participate in the 26.2-mile event starting at 6 a.m.

But the full marathon isn't the only activity surrounding the event. Also scheduled are a half-marathon, a 5-K run, a 1-K fun run for kids and a bike tour at 6 a.m. In addition there will be a free concert following the closing ceremonies organized by HBT Events.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three men and women in the open category for the full marathon, half marathon and 5-K. Certificates will be awarded three deep throughout age group categories for those three events. Finisher's medals will be presented to all those who complete the races.

A Marathon Sports Expo featuring vendor booths will continue today (September 6) will be staged along Pine Knot Boulevard from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The post marathon concert, sponsored by the City of Big Bear Lake, will feature the music of Bonne Musique Zydeco and will take place at the Christmas Tree Lot at the corner of Pine Know Avenue and Village Drive.

The concert will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and there is no fee to attend.

Hundreds of volunteers will help stage the Big Bear Marathon that will winds its way around Big Bear Lake. Organizers have been actively recruiting volunteers and participants for months and are hoping for a good turnout of spectators to cheer on those participating in the event.
